Cross Stitch Size Calculator
Enter your pattern size in stitches and the fabric count to get the finished size and how much fabric to cut. Works for Aida and for evenweave/linen stitched over two.
The formula
Finished size (in) = stitches ÷ (fabric count ÷ over). Multiply inches by 2.54 for centimetres.
Fabric to cut = finished size + 2 × margin.
Example: 100 × 80 stitches on 14-count Aida → 7.14 × 5.71 in (18.1 × 14.5 cm). With 3 in margins, cut 13.1 × 11.7 in.

Working backwards: how many stitches for a frame?
Stitches = target inches × stitches per inch. For an 8 × 10 in frame on 14-count with 1 in of mat overlap each side, design up to (8−2)×14 = 84 by (10−2)×14 = 112 stitches. Then set that width in the photo converter.

FAQ
How do I calculate cross stitch size in cm?
Stitches ÷ fabric count × 2.54. 120 stitches on 16-count = 7.5 in = 19.05 cm.
Does 28-count evenweave make a smaller design than 14-count Aida?
Not if you stitch over two threads — both give 14 stitches per inch. Stitched over one, 28-count is half the size.
